Job description:

In a world of energy transition and advanced cloud computing, talking about it isn't enough. At TenneT, we're actually making it happen! TenneT is at the start of a journey to the public cloud. We are introducing new technology and will start moving applications from their current location in our IT systems to the Public Cloud (Microsoft Azure). At the same time, new, modern, cloud-native solutions based on public cloud technologies are key to support TenneT’s ambitions and responsibilities in the energy transition. For this cloud journey, we’ve engaged in a partnership with Capgemini, acting as Managed Cloud Provider (MCP) and supporting TenneT to build, design, and maintain the Public Cloud. Our collaboration with the MCP is designed to significantly enhance our IT infrastructure's agility and resilience, positioning us at the vanguard of technological innovation and security advancements.

TenneT is running the MCP: Go Cloud Program to establish the public cloud platform and execute migrations. In parallel, to ensure the successful ongoing support and provision of the MCP service to the TenneT organization, we are building a robust platform organization. This team will be the driving force behind the Cloud Journey at TenneT for the coming years, leading the change in enhancing efficiency and agility across our operations. By harnessing the expertise of the MCP, we're looking to redefine the traditional IT delivery models, offering resources to end-users with unprecedented speed and advancing the resilience of our IT infrastructure with the latest in security and technology.

Where Will You Work:

In your capacity as Scrum Master, you will be a pivotal member of TenneT's Department of Business Technology Operations (BTO Operations), within which the Infrastructure, Integration, and Cloud (IIC) unit operates. The IIC unit is where you will contribute your expertise, overseeing the alignment and execution of our cloud strategy as part of the run-organization. You will report directly to the Lead Cloud, who holds hierarchical leadership towards the MCP Platform team within IIC.

During the program phase in which TenneT currently is building the service, you’ll join the program team, working under the functional leadership of the program manager. This dual-reporting structure will ensure that the MCP service is robustly built during the program phase and seamlessly transitioned into the business-as-usual activities of the run-organization. Your role is to act as a bridge, translating program success into operational excellence, and you will be instrumental in forging the path for TenneT's continued innovation in cloud technology within the energy sector.

TenneT and the BTO Organization:

TenneT is a leading European grid operator dedicated to ensuring a stable and continuous electricity supply to over 43 million consumers. Committed to a sustainable energy future, we operate an extensive high-voltage grid with a focus on reliability, efficiency, and innovation. Our IT division, known as BTO, is at the heart of maximizing business value, supporting processes with optimized information flows and a commitment to quality, efficiency, and accountability.

Role Description:

TenneT is on the lookout for a Scrum Master to facilitate and implement the agile processes and practices within our MCP Platform team. The Scrum Master will support the development and delivery of our Public Cloud services, ensuring the team operates efficiently and maintains a continuous improvement mindset. As a servant leader, the Scrum Master will remove obstacles, enhance team dynamics, and promote a culture of collaboration and transparency. We are at the start of our cloud journey, the Scrum Master is considered vital in shaping and designing the team to ensure a successful service for the TenneT organization.

Your role involves daily collaboration with Capgemini and internal stakeholders (guarding alignment with TenneT SAFE-events and other agile teams), fostering an environment that encourages innovation and agility. You will guide the team through Scrum events, help manage the backlog, and ensure alignment with TenneT's strategic goals. With a team of Cloud Architects and Service Managers, you'll support an international and dynamic collaboration, harnessing collective expertise from Arnhem to Bayreuth. The Scrum Master is a key player in a team that not only executes on the present but also architects the future, ensuring TenneT remains at the vanguard of the energy sector's digital transformation.

Core Responsibilities:

We adhere to the scrum guide as a guideline for role definition. This means that you are helping everyone understand Scrum theory and practice, both within the Scrum Team and the organization. You are accountable for the Scrum Team’s effectiveness. You do this by enabling the Scrum Team to improve its practices, within the Scrum framework. You serve the scrum team, the platform owner and the organization as a whole in several ways, including:
  • Coaching the team members in self-management and cross-functionality;
  • Helping the Scrum Team focus on creating high-value Increments that meet the Definition of Done;
  • Causing the right circumstances for the team to achieve flow;
  • Ensuring that all Scrum events take place and are positive, productive, and kept within the timebox;
  • Helping the Platform owner to find techniques for effective Product Goal definition and Product Backlog management;
  • Helping the Scrum Team understand the need for clear and concise Product Backlog items;
  • Helping establish empirical product planning for a complex environment;
  • Leading, training, and coaching the organization in its Scrum adoption;
  • Planning and advising Scrum implementations within the organization;
  • Helping employees and stakeholders understand and enact an empirical approach for complex work;

Your team ensures that the portfolio consists of the the right intiatives for the organization and that all planned and accepted Items are further detailed, budgeted, and sourced. It continuously explores new features and/or future directions of the platform aligned with strategic direction and business needs.
We are looking for a seasoned scrum master, who is able to perform in an partially outsourced environment. Development of the actual services takes place in India.  This means that we expect you to be flexible and to not be the scrum preacher for every circumstance.
